A Yerington woman was arrested Tuesday after allegedly stealing a car and fleeing from law enforcement, according to a news release from the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
Savanah Hellena Paij Estrella, 29, was booked into the Lyon County Detention Facility on charges of taking a motor vehicle, failing to stop for a peace officer, and possession of a stolen vehicle, the release said.
Estrella’s bail was set at $32,500.
LCSO deputies were dispatched at 9:35 a.m. Tuesday to a residence in the 500 block of Fairview Street in Yerington for a reported unwanted subject at a residence causing a disturbance, the release said. While enroute, the reporting party called back stating the suspect had stolen a vehicle and left the area.
A Yerington Police officer observed the vehicle on the Yerington Paiute Indian Reservation. A tribal police officer located the vehicle, attempting to conduct a traffic stop. The suspect fled in the stolen vehicle and left the reservation, the release said, leading tribal police, YPD and LCSO units on a several-mile chase on dirt roads and paved county roads.
Estrella ultimately traveled off a dirt road and became stuck in a ditch above the Weed Heights area of Yerington. Deputies arrested Estrella without further incident.
