The Carson City Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of teacher battery that allegedly occurred at Carson Middle School last week, Sheriff Ken Furlong confirmed Wednesday.
A parent alleged her son was slapped by a Carson Middle School teacher sometime between 7:45 a.m. and 8:40 a.m. on Feb. 1, Furlong said. He said the parent filed the report that afternoon.
According to Furlong, the police report was handled by a school resource officer, finalized and sent to the Carson City District Attorney’s Office for review of battery charges. Furlong said while CCSO can close out unsubstantiated reports, this case was forwarded to the DA for review for a warrant.
“There was a physical contact confirmed,” said Furlong.
District Attorney Jason Woodbury confirmed Wednesday his office was in the process of reviewing the case.
The Carson City School District issued a statement regarding the matter.
“Personnel matters are confidential and will not be discussed publicly,” said Dan Davis, CCSD public information officer. “The matter inquired about is under investigation. The district is committed to ensure a safe working and learning environment for all students and staff. All necessary steps will be taken to impose appropriate responses to any allegations, if found to be true.”
