Sue Jones, owner of the Purple Avocado gift shop on Curry Street, was looking forward to reopening the store this week.
She confirmed with the Appeal the store was set to reopen Tuesday, more than a month after losing her husband and business partner Stan Jones.
A veteran, former city supervisor and all-around active citizen in the Carson community, Stan Jones passed away Dec. 28 at the age of 88.
“I really appreciated all the outpourings of love and support and friendship,” Sue Jones said.
She said the gift shop they’d run together since 2001 “was like his office.”
“He enjoyed every minute he spent here,” she said. “It’s our happy place. It’s still my happy place, too. I love the store and love all our customers, and we love being part of the community this way. I definitely want to reopen and get back into it.”
Jones said she’d been holding up, most of the time, since Stan’s passing.
“It’s the little things that kind of hit the hardest,” she said. “He loved Carson City, and he loved the people in it.”
Since Sunday’s snowstorm, the area around the store has been plowed and readied for customers, Jones said.
“We’re ready for Valentine’s,” she said. “We always have a lot of heartfelt stuff. Lots of our regular gifts make great Valentine’s gifts also.”
