After qualifying for the postseason, both the Greenwave girls and boys basketball teams split their final two games of the regular season and will hit the road today to open the postseason.
The girls handled Dayton, 48-18, on Wednesday but couldn’t take down rival Fernley in a 53-24 loss to last year’s state runner-up on Senior Night on Friday at the Elmo Dericco Gymnasium.
Fallon, which finished third in the 3A East, travels to 3A West’s No. 2 seed, South Tahoe, on Monday in the first round of the playoffs. The winner advances to the regional semifinals on Friday in Elko.
The Fallon boys also defeated Dayton, 75-46, but lost to Fernley, 62-42. The Wave, which finished fourth in the 3A East, travels to 3A West’s No. 1 seed, Hug, on Monday in the first round of the playoffs. The winner advances to the regional semifinals on Friday in Elko.
Results from Dayton, Fernley
Sophomore Jada Anastasio led the Wave with 14 points, including two 3-pointers, against Dayton last week, and senior Madasyn Moyle had 12 points, including a pair from long distance. Senior Zoey Jarrett hit two 3-pointers to finish with seven points and junior Vernita Fillmore added six. Fillmore and Anastasio each had five rebounds, and sophomore Dylan Faught added four. Jarrett had four assists and seven steals.
The offense couldn’t get going in the home finale against Fernley as Jarrett led the team with five points, Anastasio had four, and senior Jessalyn Lewis, Moyle and Fillmore each added three. Moyle led the team in rebounds with six, and Jarrett and freshman Karlie Simper each had four.
Junior Braden Sorensen hit four 3-pointers to finish with 20 points in Fallon’s win over Dayton last week. Senior Brady Alves finished with 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and senior Luke Glinka and freshman Calin Anderson each had nine points.
Senior Baylor Sandberg led the team in rebounds with 10, including seven defensive boards, while junior Trevor Hyde and Glinka each had seven. Anderson also had six rebounds and a team-high six assists.
In the final game of the regular season, Hyde led the team with nine points, followed by Glinka with eight, and Anderson and Sorensen each with seven. Sandberg scored six points. Sandberg had a team-high eight rebounds and Anderson added seven.
