Carson High boys basketball fell behind early and was unable to rally against McQueen Monday night in a 74-55 loss to the Lancers in the play-in game of the Class 4A North postseason.

The Senators defense limited the Lancers to 10 points in the first five minutes, but surrendered 11 over the final 3:14 of the first quarter to fall behind 21-8.

The Lancers ended the quarter with a driving dunk just before the buzzer.

From there, McQueen grew its lead steadily while controlling the glass on both ends of the floor.

Carson trailed 39-16 at the intermission before losing by 19 to conclude their season.

The Senators finish off the year with a 4-22 overall record.

Carson will graduate six seniors in the spring in Evan Risi, Michael Hughes, Dylan O’Dell, Mouhamed Fall, Justin Moore and Jordan Tabaracci.

“We’ve had a few guys that have been around the program for a few years now. Mike (Hughes) coming back from his ACL, as quick as you physically can, to be able to play the last few games was really inspiring. Justin (Moore) battling his own knee issues. The way they compete and set the tone is what you want from your leadership,” said Carson head coach Ty Golden on Friday. “Mo (Fall) has so much potential, … he’s a fun personality, he really competes. Jordan (Tabaracci), there’s nobody who will give their body up like Jordan. … He takes so many charges and he keeps getting up and doing it. Evan (Risi), he competes, he shoots and he’s had a great attitude throughout the year. Dylan (O’Dell) found some confidence this year. He was nervous to open the year, but he always finds himself in the right spot. We had to start going to him more this year.”
