With only three weeks left before the Northern 3A postseason seeding duals, the Greenwave wrestling team continues to battle through some of the toughest tournaments in the region, including last month’s Sierra Nevada Classic and last weekend’s Rollie Lane Invitational in Idaho.

“As we get halfway through the season, I’m pretty happy with our progress, so far,” Fallon coach Trevor deBraga said. “Early in the season, the kids are out of their desired weight classes, or the weight classes we should be down to, but now we’re far enough along to where almost all the kids are at the weight we should be. We got tested in the first half of the season wrestling at the Reno TOC and the Sierra Nevada Classic, both very tough tournaments with nationally ranked opponents.”

In the SNC, Fallon didn’t advance anyone to the second day as last year’s state champ, Carson Melendy, finished with the team’s best record of 4-2 in the 138-pound division. Melendy and Lonnie Adams (132 pounds) were the only ones to advance to Day 2 in Idaho last week.

“I would have liked us to win more matches but I truly believe in a tough schedule and that the tough schedules teach the kids a lot even if they get ‘beat up’ by these tougher kids,” deBraga said. “We’re getting into the second half and our schedule only gets tougher.”

Fallon travels to Spring Creek this weekend before hitting a couple of out-of-state tournaments.

“They are going to have great competition, and I hope we can get guys on the podium as we’re still really hitting our stride to get to our peak,” deBraga said. “We always seem to get to our peak at the right time either at regionals or duals the week before so I’m hoping the kids continue to work hard and get there.”

Fallon also competed in Sparks last weekend when several placed.

Manuel Barro (106) finished 4-0 to win his division, Evan Garcia took fourth after going 4-2, and Rio Segura (126) was 3-3 and sixth. Those who didn’t place included Maximillion Dahl (120, 2-2), Wyatt Lambert (144, 2-2), Kolby McFadden (157, 1-2), Avery DeAloia (175, 2-2), Evan Innes (175, 1-2), Kacin Rogne (175, 1-2), Carlos Valenzuela (190, 2-2), William Brady (285, 0-2) and Ryder Letourneau (285, 0-2).

In the girls division, Tommie Fitzer (132) finished 2-2 and fourth and Keliah Brady (185) took fourth, too. Lacee Stoddard (120-126) finished 0-2.
