Letter: Who’s to blame?

Jim Hartman’s Jan. 13 commentary incorrectly blames Republicans for the primary/caucus fiasco. The Democratic Legislature and Gov. Sisolak imposed the Presidential Primary on Republicans during the 2021 legislative session. Not one Republican voted for this bill. There was nothing nonpartisan about it. Republicans do not object to primaries in principle, only in practice. Republicans want secure and honest elections. We believe proper identification is essential to this effort.

Democrats disdain identification, contending requiring such suppresses the vote of disadvantaged Americans. So where are these mythical hordes of citizens lacking identification? Cavorting with unicorns, I suspect. Concern over low turnout is a red herring. Fraud is the greater concern. Every illicit vote cast cancels a legitimate vote undermining and diminishing faith in our elections.

Universal mail-in ballots, outdated voter rolls, chain of custody deficiencies and lax signature verification, all enable fraud. Republicans prefer our candidate be selected without the help of noncitizens, nonresidents, fraudsters or the dearly departed.
