Free radon kits

The University of Nevada, Reno Extension’s Nevada Radon Education program is offering free short-term radon test kits to Nevadans through Feb. 29, while supplies last.

Radon test kits are available statewide at Extension offices including the Fallon office on Sheckler Road and partner locations. A list can be found at https://extension.unr.edu/radon/test-kit-locations.aspx.

His Inspirations coupons

The expiration date for discount certificates offered in conjunction with book sales and author signings at His Inspirations on Small Business Saturday have been extended until Valentine’s Day.

Legacies of the Silver State: Nevada Goes to War is a book about World War II veterans with Nevada ties. The book was written by Nevada News Group journalists Ken Beaton, David C. Henley and Steve Ranson. Proceeds are given to Honor Flight Nevada.


WNC continuing education

Youth baseball signups

Fallon Youth Baseball signups will be open until Feb. 23.

The program includes T-ball, Rookies, Minors, Majors and Babe Ruth. Coaches are needed.

A skills draft for Minors and Majors is Feb. 24. Opening day is March 23.

Please use your same account from previous years. Do not create a new account. Once you log in, click on leagues tab to register.

Creative notecards

Child Development Center children ages 1 to 5 at Western Nevada College have created notecards for the public to purchase through WNC Foundation.

They painted, colored drawings, assembled paper collages, and more in this unique collection.

By purchasing these notecards, individuals are contributing to the educational initiatives, programs and activities offered at the CDC.

Each package of notecards sells for $15 and includes two notecards for each piece of artwork for a total of 12 of cards.

Pennington Life Center

Plenty of good eats at the Pennington Life Center: All are welcome to partake. Lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Cost is $6 for those under age 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and older.


Rotary Club of Fallon

Rotary meets every Tuesday at noon at the Stockman’s Steakhouse. Each meeting usually has a speaker. Guests are welcome.


Churchill County Library

See what the Churchill County Library is offering in February and dive into a variety of events and programming. The library will be closed Feb. 19 to observe Presidents Day.

Special events:

• Spice Club in February gets spicy with cobanero chili. Pick up some at the library desk and share your culinary creations on social media and tag the library.

• Sen. Rosen’s office representative will be at the library on Feb. 8 for “office hours” at 1 p.m. Stop by and let the senator’s staff know what your concerns are.

• Reading with Rover also takes place on Feb. 8 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Children read books to dogs to improve their reading skills and confidence to a decidedly captive audience.

• Looking for work? Let EmployNV help you with aspects of finding a new job on Feb. 1 and 15 at 2 p.m. at the library.

• Teens: spend “Anti-Valentine’s Day” at the library and indulge yourself with anti-Valentine’s Day crafts on Feb. 14 from 3 to 4:30 p.m.

• Elementary Book Club meets Feb. 23 in the Library Annex at 3 p.m. for those in elementary school. February’s book is “Alone” by Megan E. Freeman and it can be reserved to take home at: bit.ly/CCLElementaryBookClub

• Book discussion group for adults continues on Feb. 29 at 6 p.m. in the library annex. This month’s topic is “love stories,” and you are encouraged to bring your favorite read to discuss and share with others. Light refreshments served.


NRCS financial and technical assistance

The U.S Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service is offering financial and technical assistance to help agricultural producers apply conservation practices through the Environmental Quality Incentives Program and the Agricultural Management Assistance Program.

Approximately $17 million is available to producers through EQIP and AMA.

Applications for EQIP and AMA must be received by the local field office before 4 p.m. on March 29. Any applications received after the March 29 deadline will be considered for funding during the next funding cycle. Eligibility for applications will be determined by April 26 and money will be obligated by June 14.
