On July 4 at about 5:15 p.m., Carson City Sheriff’s deputies responded to a call of credit card skimmers being discovered at a business in east Carson City, according to a news release.
Historically, when one of these devices is discovered, they have been installed in other businesses in the area but may be undiscovered.
Carson City business owners or users are being asked to check their point-of-sale system keypads for the devices. If you discover one, please contact non-emergency dispatch to report the device. Do not touch or tamper with the device.
Shoppers and business patrons are being asked to be vigilant of their credit/debit cards and bank accounts. Contact your financial institution for any suspicious transactions. If you have been the victim of a skimmer, make a report at the sheriff’s office during business hours and follow your financial institution’s guidance on card cancellation, replacement and reporting.
Anyone with information on this case is encouraged to call the Carson City Sheriff’s Office or contact Secret Witness at 775-322-4900.
