Update, 3:30 p.m. July 6: Carson City Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a call of shots fired Thursday at the apartment complex located at 20 College Parkway in North Carson City. Deputies arrived to find a chaotic scene of a juvenile party broken up by gunfire.

Deputies located a victim, who was shot in the leg. He was transported to Renown Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. The suspect also fired several rounds into two nearby apartments. One of the rounds entered a bedroom and traveled above the beds of two sleeping children.

Deputies and detectives quickly identified the suspect and a female juvenile accomplice who assisted the male suspect in leaving the scene. The suspect was a 17-year-old male juvenile, who is a documented gang member and was already on supervision with Youth Parole for a different gang-related crime.

Detectives searched for the suspects through the night and into the following day. At about 5 p.m. Friday, detectives and the Special Enforcement Team executed search warrants in the 100 block of Tiger Drive and 2700 block of Dori Way. The male suspect and his female accomplice were taken into custody without incident. They were both booked at the Carson City Juvenile Detention Center on the following charges: battery with a deadly weapon; assault with a deadly weapon; discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling; child endangerment with a deadly weapon; possession of a firearm by a prohibited person; and youth parole violation;

Update, 9:30 p.m. July 5: According to Sheriff Ken Furlong Friday, several juveniles were detained early Friday evening at Tiger Drive and Dori Way in the shooting incident that occurred Thursday night. One female and one male were taken into custody. Searches continue at Dori Way.


Original, 2 p.m.: The Carson City Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that took place at 11:50 p.m. Thursday. One male juvenile was reported injured at the scene with a gunshot wound to the leg.

Investigators remained at the scene throughout the night retrieving evidence and interviewing witnesses. According to information gathered, several juveniles were engaged in a physical altercation in a parking lot at the apartments located at 20 College Parkway. The altercation appears to have moved into the common areas of the apartments and resulted in one male discharging several rounds from a small caliber handgun. As deputies were arriving at the scene, they observed many juveniles running from the area in all directions.

The victim of this incident received a minor gunshot wound to the leg. He was treated at the scene by fire/paramedics and transported to an area hospital.

Bullet projectiles were recovered from area apartments, including one that passed through the bedroom of innocent residents. Investigators continue to identify everyone who was involved in the incident as well as the suspect.
