On Saturday, an anonymous citizen informed Lyon County Sheriff’s deputies about a residence in Dayton in which living conditions were extremely poor, along with additional concerns of possible child endangerment or neglect, animal neglect and drug use.
Deputies located the owner of the residence in a parking lot of a nearby business, which subsequently resulted in a DUI investigation. During this investigation, the suspect had multiple children present and under her direct care.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Dayton resident Heather Harrison, was impaired and arrested for DUI drugs. After officials with the Nevada Division of Child and Family services were contacted to take custody of the children, a visit to the Dayton residence was necessary to gather clothing and medication for the children. Upon arrival at the residence, it was discovered that the residence was in extremely poor condition.
A search warrant was applied for and granted for the residence. Upon entry into the residence, deputies observed the conditions to be extremely filthy and uninhabitable. There were also multiple animals living within the squalor.
In addition to the DUI, Harrison also was charged with five counts of felony child abuse/endangerment and seven counts of animal cruelty.
The Nevada Division of Child and Family Services took custody of the children who were living in the residence. The animals in the home were turned over to the care of Lyon County Animal Control officers.
Harrison’s total bail is $239,760.
