Carson City mayoral candidate Jim Shirk, who received enough votes in the June 11 primary to stay in the race with incumbent Mayor Lori Bagwell, raised $8,275 in the second quarter of the 2024 campaign running from April 1 to June 30. In the first quarter, Shirk reported zero in contributions, according to filings at the Nevada Secretary of State’s Office.
In the spring and beginning summer months, Shirk raised $5,355 in contributions over $100, and $2,920 in contributions of $100 or less. Top contributors included Michele Shirk for $2,000, Dorthy Gysele for $1,000 and Heather Koche for $700.
Shirk reported $7,752.17 in expenses primarily for advertising.
Bagwell led the first quarter in contributions and kept the trend this second quarter, raising $19,749 — $16,650 of that in contributions over $100. Total amount of contributions at $100 or under were reported to be $1,349. Top contributors were the Griffin Co., for $5,000, Casino Fandango for $2,500 and Sierra Nevada Realtors for $2,000. Bagwell also reported $1,750 in in-kind contributions, including $1,500 from Eric Fiegehen for advertising. The mayor’s expenses for the quarter were reported to be $15,277.08 primarily for advertising.
In the race for Ward 4 on the Carson City Board of Supervisors, incumbent Lisa Schuette raised $11,149.13 with $6,550 from contributions over $100, and $2,239 from contributions of $100 or less. Top contributors in the second quarter were Carson City Democrats for $1,000, Matt and Shirle Eiting for $750, and $500 from Susan Martinovich, $500 from Sandy and Tim Koch McFadden, and $500 from Southwest Gas. In-kind contributions over $100 were reported at $2,360.13 including $1,379 in website building from Sena Loyd. Total expenses for Schuette were reported at $4,916.44 for advertising-related items.
Ward 4 challenger Lucia Maloney raised $11,288.94 in the second quarter with $8,490 from contributions over $100, and $1,243.89 in in-kind contributions over $100, and $1,555.05 in contributions of $100 or less. Top contributors were Dan Mooney for $2,000, $1,000 from Philip Becker, $1,000 from the Committee to Elect P.K. O’Neill, and a total of $520 from Ward 2 Supervisor Maurice White. In-kind contributions included $500 from High Sierra Creative LLC. Expenses were reported at $8,887.51 including advertising and office expenses.
In the race for First Judicial District Court Department 2, to which Judge Kristin Luis was temporarily appointed by Gov. Joe Lombardo, Luis raised $2,300 in the second quarter with $2,000 of that from contributions over $100. Top contributors were Steven Wassner with $1,000, $500 from Thomas and Theresa Horgan, and $500 from Marilyn Lewis. Expenses totaled 3,529.64, mostly for advertising.
Attorney and challenger Mark Krueger raised $11,300 in the second quarter including $10,350 in contributions over $100. Top contributors were $10,000 from Sol-Up, a $500 loan from Mark Krueger, and $200 from Misty Grimmer. Expenses totaled $7,230.54 including advertising and consultant-related costs.
The general election is Nov. 5. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, third-quarter contribution and expense reports from candidates are due by Oct. 15.
