Carson High School alumni Lukas Taggart was making waves before he had graduated from his time as a Senator.

After two years playing college golf at the Colorado School of Mines, Taggart continues to push the envelope.

His latest accolade came at the end of last week when he qualified for the 124th U.S. Amateur, which will be played Aug. 12-18 at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.

Taggart qualified for the prestigious event after winning co-medalist honors in a qualifier at Columbine Country Club in Colorado.

The U.S. Amateur will have two rounds of stroke play to begin the tournament, followed by four rounds of knockout match play, then concluding with a 36-hole championship match.

The former Senator played with his college teammate Max Lange as his caddy, according to the school’s athletics site.

Earlier in the week, Taggart was named an Academic All-America, coming on the heels of earning first team All-RMAC honors after posting an average score of 71.72 in his sophomore season.

He finished the year ranked 69th in the country in Division II.

While at Carson, Taggart won the Class 5A Northern Region tournament at Dayton Valley Golf Course as a senior.
