The Carson City Community Development Department is advising that someone is sending falsified invoices to customers and requesting that the funds be wired to a bank account, the city said in news release Tuesday.
“The invoices are sent by email, and the sender impersonates a member of the city’s staff,” reads the release.
“We will never ask anyone to wire funds to an account. The invoices are fraudulent. If you are uncertain as to the legitimacy of an invoice, please call the office at 775-887-2180,” said Community Development Director Hope Sullivan.
The matter has been referred to the Carson City Sheriff’s Office.
