Letter: Who pays?

I stumbled upon the following sentence while I was mindlessly cruising the Internet rather than cleaning the kitchen. “As Tariffs on Foreign Producers go up, Taxes on American Workers, Families, and Businesses can come down.” [sic, 2024 GOP Platform page 11.]

Foreign producers do not pay tariffs, American workers, families and businesses pay tariffs. Aside from honesty, does it matter if the American workers, families and businesses pay a tariff or pay a tax? A mooted 10% across the board tariff will raise prices and the American workers, families and businesses will still pay taxes.

Is it wise to vote for ignorance on the scale of the entire U.S. economy?
