Churchill County Sheriff’s deputy Michael Hardin was recently recognized for his quick response during a medical emergency on June 25 near Interstate 80 east of Jessup.
Sheriff Richard Hickox said a man was having a medical emergency. Upon arrival, Hardin located the juvenile patient, who was found to have a laceration on his right arm. Hickox said the laceration had been wrapped with a shirt to control the bleeding before the arrival of law enforcements personnel.
“Deputy Hardin assessed the injury and noticed a large amount of blood still emanating from the wound and quickly applied a tourniquet to the subject's right arm,” Hickox said.
Care Flight responded to a call to the location and the patient was flown to Reno for further medical treatment. A few days later, Hickox said the Sheriff's Office Administration was approached by medical personnel who were on the scene with Hardin.
“The administration was informed that the swift actions of Deputy Hardin in placing the tourniquet on the patient saved the juvenile's life, as the injury was life-threatening,” Hickox said.
Hickox awarded Hardin a letter of commendation for his response to the emergency.
