Free school supplies will be available to all local students during Fallon Community Day from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Aug. 10 at the Rafter 3C arena on Sheckler Road.

Children must be present to pick up the supplies and organizers encourage families to come early.

Sponsors provide the basic supplies from lists released by the schools each summer along with other items both useful and fun. Last year more than 500 students received goody bags, backpacks, headphones, markers, rulers, pens and pencils. The materials have mostly proven useful for elementary students, since higher grade levels utilize Chromebooks in many classes.

Churchill County, the city of Fallon and New Frontier are co-sponsoring the annual event which was held for the first time in 2022 at the new R3C arena. Not only did families receive school supplies, but they also mingled with the area’s first responders and met the various representatives of organizations that provided information and supplies.

The event also includes a free barbecue, free bounce house, free swimming at the city pool at Oats Park and interactive visits with first responders and their vehicles. Local agencies will distribute helpful information and conduct car seat checks and installs. Clothing vouchers will be available for redemption at Blue Sky thrift store. Central Nevada Health District staff will be on hand to administer vaccines required to attend school.

Event highlights include engaging displays and presentations from each department and program that highlight the opportunities and experiences provided by the program/department; interactive sessions engaging attendees with interactive demonstrations and activities that offer a glimpse into the dynamic learning experiences within a program; and networking opportunities with faculty and staff who may connect with colleagues and share their best practices.

Students arriving at the event before 6 p.m. will be entered into a drawing for a new laptop or one of ten $100 gift cards.

All are welcome to take advantage of this free community resource to kick off a successful school year.
