Dear readers, the 17th annual Bark in the Park 5K walk/run will take place on Saturday from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m. Registration for the 5k is from 7:15 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. (promptly) at the Churchill County Fairgrounds. The walk/run begins at 8 a.m.

The registration fee is $30 per person if you pre-register online by June 6 and $40 on the day of the event. You can sign up at https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=115038

Dogs walk for free but must be on a leash. T-shirts and goodie bags are available to the first 120 to register. The top three female and male runners will receive gift cards.

I am looking forward to seeing everyone and being the slowest walker in the group. There were years when we were quick enough to get a medal. In fact, all of Watson’s medals are hanging in the kitchen.

I urge everyone to come and check out the vendor booths, food trucks, live music, alcohol bar, bounce houses, raffle, pet photo shoot, petting zoo, and activities throughout the day. Dogs are welcome and many of the activities are for your dog.

On another note, as the weather warms up I wanted to remind everyone to never leave your pets in a parked car. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise to dangerous levels rapidly. For example, on an 85-degree day the inside temperature of a car, even with the windows slightly opened, can reach 102 degrees within 10 minutes. After 30 minutes, the temperature will reach 120 degrees. Your pet may suffer organ damage or die.

The best bet for your BFF instead of leaving him in the car is for him to stay at home in a cool pool, shady area, with water to drink.

OVER THE RAINBOW

Hootie departed for dog heaven on May 24. He is missed by his Mom, Foster, Hazel, Bennie Moo Moo and his extended family. We are sure that Hootie is stirring up heaven and bossing the angels around. He was a small dog with a big attitude. Rootie, tootie to Hootie!
