A heat advisory is in effect for the Western Nevada Basin and Range including Pyramid Lake and the cities of Lovelock, Imlay, Silver Springs, Fernley, Nixon and Fallon through Friday at 8 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service’s Reno office, high temperatures will range between 95-100 degrees through Saturday.
Expected highs are: 96, Wednesday; 99, Thursday; 98, Friday; 98, Saturday.
The record highs for this week recorded at NAS Fallon are 100, Wednesday; 98, Thursday; 102, Friday; and 103, Saturday.
Isolated thunderstorms are predicted for after 11 p.m. on Thursday.
Hot temperatures and sunny skies may cause heat illnesses to occur, especially for those sensitive to heat and outdoors for extended periods of time, NWS said. Since this is the first heat event of the summer season, many people are not yet acclimatized to heat and may be impacted more than normal.
The average first 100 degrees for Fallon is not until July 10.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.
