Engineering and welding students from Carson High School collaborated with the Carson City Chamber of Commerce’s leadership class to create metal artwork for the leadership class’ effort to renew Mills Park Amphitheater and Memorial. The students took hand-drawn sketches to derive the original art form, the Carson City Golden Eagle and the Nevada Bluebird.
Aaron Whitt, CHS junior in computer integrated manufacturing, modeled the birds in the computer program Fusion and prepared for them for the plasma cutting table. Ben Morrison, CHS senior in advanced welding, completed the file transfer to the plasma cutting table and finished the metal to its colored state.
The finished piece has the metal colors brought out by oxy-acetylene processing. The chamber handled the installation of the metal art.
