Seeking community input on the ongoing Master Plan update, the Carson City Community Development Department will host public meetings 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturdays in March at the Carson City Library, 900 N. Roop St.
“A Spanish-speaking planner will be available on March 9, 16 and 30,” the city said in a news release. “This is part of the city’s outreach to inform and engage with the community about the current efforts and seek input from all community members.”
In October 2023, the city hired Clarion Associates, a national land-use consulting firm, to help update its Master Plan.
“The Land Use Master Plan isn’t just a policy document; it is a visionary roadmap,” the city said. “It articulates the city’s goals, objectives and policies relative to land development. The current plan was adopted in 2006. Since then, the freeway interchange with Highway 50 has opened, and there have been infrastructure improvements in the downtown corridor and South Carson Street.”
City staff pointed to new technologies that have changed shopping and the workplace and to state demographer figures showing the city’s population growing 5.24 percent between 2006 and 2022.
“We want to be accessible to everyone and let them know that the update process is happening, answer questions and receive input,” said Community Development Director Hope Sullivan. “We are including a Spanish-speaking planner to better communicate with the Spanish-speaking residents and business owners.”
