The Greenwave baseball and softball teams picked up a pair of doubleheader sweeps to open 3A play.
Fallon’s baseball team defeated North Valleys, 13-4 and 13-1, on Saturday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex after ending the Panthers’ season last May in the regional tournament.
Playing as the visitors at home due to North Valleys’ field not being playable from the previous week’s snowstorm, Fallon rode on the arms of a pair of southpaws. Junior James Kelsey struck out five in four innings to pick up the win in the first game before senior Bryce Adams took the win in the nightcap with a six-strikeout performance in four innings.
In the 13-4 win, Fallon scored the first eight runs as the offense finished with eight hits, including four extra-base hits.
Kelsey led the team at the plate with a triple, double and three runs batted in, while junior Trevor Hyde singled twice and drove in a run. Senior Baylor Sandberg tripled and drove in three.
Junior Anthony Juarez finished the game on the hill, striking out three in three innings.
In the second game, North Valleys scored the first run before Fallon scored its runs in the middle innings.
Senior Aiden Gonzales led the team at the plate with three hits, including a double, and two RBIs. Senior Brady Alves and junior Evan Giovanetti each drove in three, and juniors Chase Carnahan and Nathaniel Zackery each had two RBIs.
Sandberg closed the door with two innings on the hill, recording every out by strikeout and his fastball topping at 93 mph.
Fallon was on the road this week at a local tournament and hosts Truckee on Saturday for a doubleheader.
