The Capital City Community Band will present its annual “Salute To Young Musicians” concert at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24 in the Boldrick Theater at the Carson City Community Center.
One of the featured young musicians will be Carson High School senior Zachary Carpenter performing “The Grumbly Old Bear” on the tuba. Carpenter began playing the trombone in fifth grade at Fremont Elementary School and added the tuba to his musical skills in high school. Additionally, Carpenter plays percussion in the CHS Winter Drum line and in wind ensemble when needed, has been a multi-year member of the CHS Blue Thunder marching band, and is a member of CCCB.
The concert will also feature Jonah Toral and Ashton Fajayan on “Duelin’ Xylos,” a xylophone duet. Toral and Fajayan are graduates of Carson High School, and both have performed with the CCCB in years past. Several other student groups will perform, including the CHS Winter Drum Line and the CHS Clarinet Choir.
The CCCB portion of the concert will feature a variety of music, including circus marches, “Clarinet Candy,” “Irish Washerwoman,” and “Salute To American Jazz.”
The recipient of the Capital City Community Band Richard Doede music scholarship will also be announced. The concert is free and open to the public. Donations are accepted.
