Douglas softball rolls through first area foes

The Tiger softball team left little doubt why they’ll be a tough out in Northern Nevada this season with three wins at the end of last week – all by run-rule.

Thursday, Douglas shut out Spanish Springs, 10-0, in six innings.

Lilyann Lee was 3-for-3 with a home run and five RBIs.

Talia Tretton struck out 12, allowing just two hits. Tretton was also 2-for-3 at the plate with a home run and two RBIs.

Haley Wilkinson, who had a pair of doubles, and Annie Hill each knocked in a run.

Saturday, the Tigers thumped Bishop Manogue in a doubleheader, winning 10-0 (six innings) and 11-1.

In the first half of the DH, Wilkinson was 1-for-3 with a grand slam in the sixth inning.

Ava Delaney went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs as well for the Tigers.

In the second game, Wilkinson was 4-for-5 with a double, home run and four RBIs.

Lee drove in five RBIs while going 3-for-5, including another home run.

In 13 innings against the Miners, Tretton allowed five hits, one earned run and struck out 22.

UP NEXT: Douglas (8-3, 2-0 in Class 5A North league play) will host Damonte Ranch (2-1) Thursday at 3:45 p.m.


Swim and dive in aqua5 meet

Douglas swimming competed against several teams this weekend, giving the Tigers a look at where all their swimmers stack up against area programs.

In the boys 100-yard freestyle, sophomore Matthew Sutton was fourth, touching the wall in a time of 52.56.

Sutton was also fourth in the 50-yard freestyle in 23.78.

Sutton and fellow sophomore Baylen Rowlett were seventh and eighth in the 100-yard butterfly with times of 1:02.94 and 1:03.1, respectively.

On the diving side, Douglas had top finishes on the boys side with the Tigers placing second through sixth. Allen Baker led the way with a score of 252.70 while Austin Pitts was third with a mark of 211.55.

On the girls side, Cammie Jahreis was ninth overall in the 50-yard freestyle, recording a time of 27.78.

In the 100-yard backstroke, Keira Duffy was ninth in 1:18.06.

In diving, Douglas’ top scorer was Emily Phillips, who took fourth with a score of 157.55. Kiley Wagstaff was fifth with a score of 123.65.


Track third at Fighting Zebras Invite

Douglas High girls track and field had a solid team result from their meet in Lincoln, California over the weekend.

The Tigers scored 100 points to place third. Twelve Bridges was the winning team on the girls side with 118 points.

Junior Stella White won the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet, 6 inches.

Logan Karwoski was third in the high jump after clearing 5 feet.

Elizabeth Gneiting and Karwoski finished third and fourth, respectively, in the long jump. Gneiting was also fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 33 feet, 10 inches.

Grace Strabala was fourth in the 100-meter dash (13.01) and seventh in the 200 (26.88).

Lucia Nord finished fifth in the 800 meters in 2:40.08 for a personal record. Nord also set a PR in the 1,600, finishing in 5:46.50.

Stella Bradley took third in the 3,200 in 13:17.49.

The Tigers’ 4x400 team of Zoe Baligad, Autumn Petite, Ayla Nelson and Nord took second in 4:30.71.

On the boys side, Douglas was 10th as a team with 36 points.

Luke Davis took home the bronze medal in the 800 with a personal record of 2:03.14. Davis was second in the 1,600 in 4:30.26.

Dennis Jorgensen finished fifth in the 3,200 in 10:52.24.

In field events, Carlo Barton put together a fifth place finish in the pole vault with a clearance of 11 feet.
