Sonoma Park will be closed March 25 to April 15 for seasonal maintenance and repairs, the Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department said in a news release.
“This closure will allow efforts to renovate the turf, address irrigation issues, and repair deficiencies related to the parks irrigation system to be made,” the city said. “During the temporary closure, city staff will be performing much needed turf rehabilitation throughout the park. Aerifying, overseeding, and fertilizing will be conducted to help turf recover and rejuvenate from the heavy use of this popular park.
“Staff will also be performing an irrigation audit (evaluation) to address issues and resolve any inefficiencies in the current irrigation system.”
During closure, equipment and irrigation will be used regularly to “fully evaluate the irrigation system and provide adequate water for seeds to germinate,” according to the release.
“For the safety of the staff and the public, the park must be closed for the duration of the work, as there is likely to be equipment on site, watering during daytime hours, and exposed areas from digging and trenching,” the city said. “The city sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure.”
