Motorists heading west to Carson City will face additional highway work on U.S. Highway 50 through mid-April in the Dayton area.
This project coincides with another project on U.S. 50 west of Fallon.
According to the Nevada Department of Transportation, construction crews will replace the concrete barrier rail in the middle of the four-lane highway. NDOT said the modern, heavier rail will help reduce the potential of cross-over crashes and, in many places, provide for easier maintenance and replacement of any barrier rail hit in crashes.
One lane will intermittently be closed in each direction on one-mile segments of U.S. 50 between Baldwine Lane in Mound House and Winters Parkway in Dayton from 6:30 a.m.-6 p.m. The project will occur on weekdays through mid-April. Speed limits will be reduced to 45 mph.
While most delays will be moderate, NDOT said travel delays of up to 30 minutes may be expected through the work zone. The road work schedule is subject to change.
Two different lane reductions are in effect as NDOT resurfaces about 17 miles of the aging U.S. 50 roadway surface east of the Silver Springs roundabout to the Leeteville junction nine miles west of Fallon.
About a five-mile section of U.S. 50 will be reduced to a single lane weekdays between 6 a.m.-6 p.m., with pilot cars alternating directions of traffic through the work zone. Speeds will be reduced to as low as 55 mph in the work zone.
NDOT said U.S. 50 will also be reduced to one lane near Lahontan River campground for bridge replacement. Temporary traffic signals will alternate traffic through the area around the clock through the end of 2024. Speeds will be reduced to 25 m.p.h. approaching the bridge work zone.
