The community is invited to join state officials, Carson City elected officials, the Carson City Fire Department and other city staff as they break ground on a fire station and emergency operations center Monday at 11 a.m., according to a news release from Carson City.

The new facility, called Carson City Fire Station 55 and Emergency Operations Center, will be located at 3505 Butti Way. CCFD Chief Sean Slamon previously told the Appeal he hopes the new station will help cut the department’s average response time from around six minutes to four minutes.

“The need for a new fire station was first identified as part of a study conducted 23 years ago, and it will be the first new fire station in Carson City since the mid-1970s. The fire department is excited to improve emergency response times in the community with this new facility,” he said in the release.

“Our community has grown since the 1970s, and we are honored to be able to build a much-needed resource for our emergency first responders,” said Carson City Public Works Director Darren Schulz.

Public Works is managing the project for the fire department and the emergency management and information technology divisions.

TSK Architects designed the fire station, and CORE Construction will be building it.

Earlier this year, the Board of Supervisors unanimously approved the project, which will include an 18,000-square-foot facility to serve as a fire station, an emergency operations center, IT offices and a backup dispatch station. The facility will be the fourth staffed fire station in the city.

Estimated to cost more than $18 million, the project is anticipated to be completed in summer 2025.
