The next chapter of the spring season begins for Fallon and Oasis Academy this week.
The Greenwave baseball and softball teams won the 3A East to receive a double-bye, and they will open double-elimination play Thursday at Spring Creek. Fallon’s swim team competes in the regional trials on Friday at 3 p.m., at the Carson Aquatic Facility, while the track and field team competes down the road on Friday and Saturday at Carson High School.
Fallon’s golf team doesn’t compete in a regional tournament and will advance to state next week as a team if it places in the top-three.
The Greenwave baseball team finished with a perfect league record and will take on the winner of No. 2 North Valleys (West) or No. 3 Elko (East) on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. The winner advances to the championship semifinal at 12:30 p.m. on Friday while the loser drops into consolation at 10:15 a.m.
The Wave softball team, which finished 11-3 to win the division, faces either No. 2 Sparks (West) or No. 3 Fernley (East) at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday. A win advances Fallon to the championship semifinal on Friday at 1:30 p.m., while a loss would drop it into consolations with a game at 11:15 a.m.
The championship and “if” game for both tournaments begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday.
The state tournaments for baseball and softball will be in Fallon next week.
The swim team will compete in the trials Friday in Carson with the top eight times advancing to Saturday’s finals. The relay teams will compete Saturday with action starting at 11:30 a.m.
The top four times from the finals advance to next week’s state meet in Las Vegas.
After the weather shortened last weekend’s track and field trials meet at Reed – several events were not contested – the action picks up on Saturday in Carson.
The top eight finishers in the track events and top 10 in the field events advanced to Saturday’s finals. The top four advance to state next week, which is also in Carson.
Friday’s events start at 2 p.m. while Saturday begins at 9 a.m.
The Greenwave boys golf team sat in first with two tournaments left this week. The top three teams advance to the state tournament on May 14-15 at the Mountain Falls Golf Club in Pahrump.
OASIS ACADEMY
The baseball and softball teams finished third to qualify for the four-team regional tournament at Pershing County.
The top two teams from the regional tournament advance to state next week at Durango High School in Las Vegas.
Despite being swept in its final series against league-leading West Wendover, the Bighorns’ baseball club finished third and will face No. 2 Yerington at 11:30 a.m. on Friday. The winner faces either No. 1 West Wendover or No. 4 Incline on Friday.
The softball team also takes on Yerington at 11:30 a.m. on Friday with the winner facing either No. 1 Pershing County or No. 4 Battle Mountain later that day.
The championship and “If” game for both tournaments begin at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday in Lovelock.
The Oasis Academy boys golf team competed in the 2A East league tournament Wednesday at the Dayton Valley Golf Course. The top two teams and top five individuals from non-qualifying teams advance to state, which is May 14-15 at the Ruby View Golf Course in Elko.
