Carson High School swimming will have plenty of representation at this weekend’s Class 5A state meet, which will be held at the Pavilion Center Pool in Las Vegas.
A top four finish at last weekend’s regional meet qualified competitors for state.
On the girls side, the Senators 200-yard medley relay team of Brynn Russell, Alexandra Nerska, Alexandra Llamas-Cruz and Larkin Russell punched their ticket to state after taking third in 1:50.87.
Llamas-Cruz won the regional title in the 100-yard butterfly in 56.67.
In the 200-yard freestyle, Larkin Russell (1:55.92) and Llamas-Cruz (1:57.70) will both be state representatives after taking second and third.
The 200-yard freestyle relay saw Llamas-Cruz, Nerska, Katarina Klatt and Anna Turner secure a spot in the state meet with a third place finish in 1:42.23.
Larkin Russell, Turner, Brynn Russell and Klatt took second in the 400-yard freestyle relay to advance to state.
Klatt, a senior, continued her impressive performances in the short distances, taking second in the 50-yard freestyle (24.01) and 100-yard freestyle (52.83).
Brynn Russell also qualified for state in the 200-yard individual medley, taking fourth in 2:16.32.
Larkin Russell was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle for the Senators in 5:26.45 to earn a ticket to state.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Nerska was third for the Senators in 1:07.70.
As a team, the Carson girls were fifth overall with 271 team points. Reno won the team title with 340 points.
For the Carson boys, Leif Morway reached the state meet after taking second place in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:46.70.
Morway also took fourth in the 100-yard butterfly (53.25) to advance to state.
Freshman Asa Morway was fourth in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5:25.44.
Junior Ewan Kalley was third in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.21 to secure a spot at the state meet.
The Senator boys’ 200-yard freestyle relay team of Todd Gosselin, Clayton Whalen, Asa Morway and David Roque-McDuffie will compete at state after a fourth place finish in 1:35.16.
Carson’s 400-yard freestyle relay will also compete on the last weekend of the season after taking third in 3:27.40 with the grouping of Gosselin, Asa Morway, Kalley and Leif Morway.
The Senator boys took fourth as a team with 239 points. Reed won the team title with 345.
