This week the senior in the spotlight is Madelyn Monson. Monson is an excellent student and a dedicated athlete with expectation of world travel. Her academic record speaks for itself. Boasting a 5.14 weighted grade point average, she is in the top 10 students of the senior class. She has already completed the requirements to earn her Advanced Placement (AP) Capstone diploma by taking and passing six AP tests, including AP research and AP seminar. Yet, she continues to push herself and is taking an additional six AP classes this year.
Monson enjoyed her time on the court, competing with the CHS basketball and volleyball teams. As a freshman, she made it onto the varsity basketball team, where she spent two seasons. She played volleyball all four years, joining varsity her junior year, and being named captain this past season. Her favorite memory of volleyball was beating the Manogue volleyball team for the first time in many years.
Outside of school, Monson enjoys spending time with animals, music and traveling. She is working as an orderly in a vet hospital, helping to clean up and prep the surgery rooms for sick pets. She enjoys observing the veterinarian and the assistants as they care for the animals.
A self-proclaimed “Swiftie,” Monson loves listening to Taylor Swift, often using her music on walks to help manage her stress level. Maddie plans to attend the University of Nevada, Reno in the fall where she will major in business. She looks forward to the opportunities her education will provide, including career prospects and the potential for traveling the world. Congratulations, Maddie! Carson High School is proud of you.
