Senator swimmers well represented at state meet

The Carson High School swimming team made the trek down to Las Vegas for the Class 5A state swimming meet to conclude the 2024 spring season.

The Senator girls tied for sixth place as a team with 52 team points, while the boys were 14th with 13 points as a unit.

Senior Katarina Klatt put together a third-place result in the 50-yard freestyle, touching the wall at 24.43.

In the 100-yard freestyle, the Northern Arizona signee was second overall in 53.13.

Fellow senior Alexandra Llamas-Cruz was the runner-up in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.65.

Larkin Russell (1:58.37) and Llamas-Cruz (1:59.07) were sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 200-yard freestyle.

Carson girl’s 200-yard medley relay team was eighth in 1:59.03. The Senators’ 200-yard freestyle relay team — Llamas-Cruz, Alexandra Nerska, Brynn Russell and Klatt — completed the event in 1:41.83 to take fifth place overall.

Nerska went on to finish in third in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.95.

Brynn Russell took eighth in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:18.32.

Larkin Russell posted a 5:27.57 in the 500-yard freestyle to finish in eighth place.

Larkin and Brynn Russell joined Llamas-Cruz and Klatt in the 400-yard freestyle relay for a fourth-place result in 3:38.86.

On the boys side, junior Lief Morway took seventh place in the 200-yard freestyle, clocking a time of 1:49.28.

Morway clocked a time of 56.85 in the 100-yard butterfly, taking seventh.

Fellow junior Ewan Kalley was seventh in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:10.76.

Asa Morway took eighth place in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:35.44.

The Senator’s 200-yard freestyle relay foursome of Asa Morway, Clayton Whalen, David Roque-McDuffie and Leif Morway finished in 1:33.67 to secure sixth place.
