Moving Forward Powwow gets underway this weekend

Experience the vibrant heartbeat of Great Basin at the Moving Forward Together Powwow from May 31 to June 2 at the Rafter 3C Arena.

This third annual Moving Forward Together Powwow is free and open to the public, and all are invited to attend and participate.

Admission is free. On Friday, doors open at 2 p.m. with activities at 5 p.m. and Dougie Hall at 7 p.m.

Doors open at 10 a.m. on Saturday with the grand entries at noon and 7 p.m.

A Dougie Hall meet and greet is from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Twisted Branch. Tickets are $25 for adults and $5 for youth. Tickets are limited and to purchase, go to FallonPowwow.com

MFT Powwow features Cultural Night and the Social Powwow.

Cultural Night is a Journey into Indigenous existence and wellness, while the powwow will begin the festivities with a cultural night on Friday. Cultural Night is an immersive exploration of Nevada's tribal heritage and traditions by encouraging people to delve into the rich tapestry of Native culture through presentations, interactive workshops and engaging speakers.

Attendees to this year’s powwow will be able to explore the Indigenous Arts Market, where artisans showcase their wares and crafts passed through generations. Visitors to the Rafter 3C also will be able to engage with tribal members and cultural experts, who impart their wisdom and knowledge.

Cultural Night is highlighted by a free speaking engagement at 7 p.m. with Dougie Hall, a Native pro bronc rider, entrepreneur and inspirational speaker. Join us as Hall shares his insights on wellness and community, offering a powerful message, “Don’t Worry About It.”

Host drum, Ozuye from Bismarck, North Dakota, is making their debut, while the Pyramid Lake Warriors and Veterans Color Guard will present the colors.

The Social Powwow this weekend is full of exhibitions, dance specials and community games. Experience the energy of traditional dance and drum.

Attendees will be able to see a variety of amenities and resources, including Indigenous arts and crafts vendors, food vendors and community resources and Indigenous initiatives, including voter registration, suicide prevention, mental health wellness, agriculture and culture.
