Tiger girls top all-region recipients

Douglas High School track and field led the Class 5A North all-region selections on the girls side after winning the girls regional title this spring.

The Tiger girls had 10 different first team all-region selections in total.

Their head coach, Steven Nelms, was named the girls coach of the year.

 Sophomore Grace Strabala earn four all-region first team honors in 100- and 200-meter dash as well as the 400- and 800-meter relay teams.

Strabala owns the school records in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes with times of 12.21 and 25.5, respectively.

On the 4x100-meter relay, Elizabeth Gneiting, Logan Karwoski and Bliss Moody joined Strabala.

The same group was named first team all-region in the 4x200-meter relay as well.

They hold the school record in the 4x200 with a mark of 1:43.67.

Moody was chosen as a first team all-region selection in the long jump while Gneiting earned the same honors in the triple jump. Gneiting was a second team selection in the long jump.

Karwoski and Malena Van Wagenen were both selected as first-team all-region recipients in the high jump.

Katelyn Coons joined her fellow Tigers with a pair of first team all-region honors in both the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. She holds the school record in the 300-meter hurdles in 46.62.

Coons posted her two best times of the season at the regional meet, winning a pair of regional titles.

The Tigers’ 4x800-meter relay team picked up a second team all-region nod.

Ayla Nelson, Amy Van Wagenen, Logan Axtell and Lucy Nord put together a state-qualifying effort at regionals, clocking a 9:59.58.

Stella White put up a mark of 11 feet, six inches in the pole vault to qualify for state and earn a second team all-region spot.
