The Public Utilities Commission has set consumer sessions on Tuesday, June 4 in Carson City to hear about NV Energy’s plan to increase electricity and natural gas rates.

The PUC says the increases will raise revenue by $105.9 million for NV Energy.

Sessions at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. are set at PUCN Carson City office, Hearing Room A at 1150 E. William St.

NV Energy is seeking to increase the basic service charge to $44.40 a month from $16.50 in Northern Nevada.

Sierra Pacific Power Co. — NV Energy’s parent company — filed a rate case in February seeking to increase revenue by $95 million operating and management costs.

While the monthly base rate would increase, SPP says it would, “decrease the volumetric per-kilowatt-hour rate to collect approximately $18.06 less per month from a typical single-family residential customer using 759 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month.”

In all, the typical residential customer’s bill would go up $9.84 the utility says in its filing with the state’s PUC.

For gas service, NV Energy seeks to increase its annual revenues by $11.1 million. The Basic Service Charge would increase $4 a month, and increase the volumetric per-therm rate by about $0.75 more per month. A typical residential customer’s bill would increase approximately $4.75 per month.

“New electric and natural gas rates will become effective Oct. 1, 2024. Docket No. 24-02026 (electric operations) and Docket No. 24-02027 (natural gas operations) have been consolidated for hearing purposes. The PUCN may approve rate as proposed or decrease or increase rates as necessary to ensure rates are just and reasonable,” the PUC said in a Wednesday news release.

The phone conference number for the Tuesday sessions is 1-702-870-3481 with a conference ID: 856 022 015#.
