Carson High School football’s playoff opener Friday night went as planned as the Senators rolled through Hug, 58-0, to advance to the regional semifinals of the Class 5A North Div. III postseason.
No. 3 Carson will travel to take on No. 2 Damonte Ranch next Friday at 6 p.m.
The Senators got on the Hawks from the jump, scoring the game’s first touchdown in less than three minutes as Drake Hardcastle found Ethan Hendee for a 56-yard touchdown reception.
Hendee shook off at least one Hawk tackler on his way to the end zone.
Hardcastle found Angel Ruelas for the Senators’ second score, going in front 13-0 in the opening quarter.
Angelo Macias ended the quarter with a rushing touchdown, putting Carson in front 20-0.
The second quarter was much of the same story, but it was the Senator defense that started the scoring with a safety.
A few moments later, senior JT Heaton broke off a 60-yard rushing touchdown as Carson carried a 29-0 lead into the half.
That matched that point total in the second half, beginning with another long touchdown reception from Hendee.
Carson’s defense tallied another safety and the ensuing punt went to Hendee, who madehis third house call of the evening as the Senators took a 44-0 lead.
The defense finished the night with a pair of pick-sixes from Jesse Oliva and Brayden Welch.
