Dayton, Sierra Lutheran runners compete in season finale

The Carson High School girls cross country team finished in fourth place Saturday at the Class 5A state cross country in Boulder City.

Shadow Ridge won the team title with 63 team points, ending the Senators’ two-year reign as state champions.

As a team, Carson finished with 104 points, which was the second best score of any Northern area teams at the state meet behind only Galena (72), which was second.

Leading the Senator finishers was junior Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez, who took seventh place as an individual for the second consecutive season.

Rodriguez-Nunez posted a time of 19:33.6 at the Veterans Memorial Park course.

Junior Vea Miner was the next Carson runner to cross the line, taking 14th with a time of 19:54.6 while senior Jinnie Ponczoch was 28th in 20:46.8.

Madison Hager (21:01.8) and Eleanor Romeo (21:04.6) were the next two Senator runners to finish, competing the course in 38th and 40th, respectively.

Anna Shane was 55th in 22:04.1 and Lillian Barker was 67th in 22:49.7, rounding out the Carson girls results.

Spanish Springs senior Kambri Felsted won the individual state title in 18:38.1, besting Galena senior Eleanor Raker by three-tenths of a second (18:38.4).

SENATOR BOYS TAKE FOURTH

As a team, the Carson High School boys cross country team took fourth place Saturday morning with 100 team points as a unit.

Shadow Ridge was able to double up on team titles also winning the Class 5A boys state team title with 75 points. Galena was in second with 79 points.

Junior harrier Sean Thornton was ninth for the Senators in 16:27.9, leading all of Carson’s finishers.

Senior Alex Miner stopped the watch in 16:44.5 to take 15th place while fellow senior Sawyer Macy completed the race in 26th in 17:01.3.

Quinn Kuchnicki, a sophomore, finished in 28th place in 17:04.7.

Seth Chalmers (17:41) was 30th for Carson while Nate Freed (18:01.7) and Ivan Romeo (18:08.9) were 48th and 51st, respectively.


SEIRRA LUTHERN, DAYTON RESULTS

Sierra Lutheran senior Chandler Ricks capped his cross country career with an 11th place finish as an individual in 18:45.3 in the Class 2A portion of the state meet.

He was the lone competitor representing the Falcon boys cross country team.

On the girls side, Sierra Lutheran’s Brielle Bodenstein completed her race in 27:00.6, taking 21st overall to wrap up her freshman season.

Dayton freshman Zoey Wildblood also completed her first varsity cross country season at the state meet, taking 39th in 25:09.7.
