Sage Academy preschool co-owners, directors and teachers Janet Renfroe and Katie Moore-Maloney cut the red ribbon on Oct. 18 with the Fallon Chamber of Commerce and then led tours through their new facility at 320 W. B St.

Guided by the motto “Achieving Excellence Together,” the school features STEM education, music, art and physical enrichment for students three to five years old.

Renfroe and Moore-Maloney both previously taught various grade levels at Oasis Academy. There they noticed that the incoming kindergarten students were lacking many of the skills necessary for academic and social learning success. The limited services available in Fallon usually had a long wait list and their students’ learning gaps continued to grow.

“We wanted to offer something that we felt would benefit the community,” Renfroe said. “To make a difference and help set them up for success going into kindergarten.”

They have designed the Sage Academy curriculum from scratch to meet those needs.

Renfroe said she ran a small in-home daycare locally when her own children were very young. She then earned her bachelor’s degree and then a master’s degree in Elementary Education and Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on literature and reading.

Moore-Maloney holds a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and said that her focus is on mathematics and building fine motor skills. She also has an English Language Acquisition and Development endorsement through the State of Nevada.

The school is currently accepting enrollment applications. Both of the directors emphasized the adaptability of their curriculum and learning environment, saying that they are “very open” to accommodating students with special needs.

“I think it’s really important to meet students where they’re at,” Moore-Maloney said. “Every student is different and it’s really fun to watch them all and kind of see what they’re interested in.”
