Fallon’s American Legion Fred W. Anderson Post 16 is asking the community for volunteers to help with its annual Thanksgiving meals outreach.
The post prepares, packs and delivers meals to the county’s seniors in need as well as opening its dining room to the community for a homemade Thanksgiving meal.
Come to the Post at 90 N. Ada St., on Nov. 28. Volunteer times are between 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Organizer Paul “Pip” Valentin said volunteers include local residents and both retired and active-duty military personnel and their families. According to Valentin, the volunteers assist the William N. Pennington Life Center by delivering meals to the county’s elderly population who either live within the city limits or reside in the county.
Valentin said residents and military personnel assigned to Naval Air Station Fallon and the Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center who wish to sign up as volunteers should contact him at paul.valentin470@gmail.com.
Valentin said volunteers delivered 130 meals to the seniors last year and another 92 dinners for residents who decided to dine in at the American Legion. Every year Valentin said he must have enough drivers to deliver the meals.
For example, in 2022 Valentin said he divided deliveries into 17 routes in the city and county.
