Letter: Election integrity

Why are noncitizens registering if they’re not voting? Why do electronic voting machines have the ability to manipulate votes if they’re not manipulating? Inquiring minds want to know.

We shouldn’t have to worry about election integrity. One of the first things Trump should do now that he’s headed back to the White House is ensure our elections are free, fair and secure now and forever. Regardless of the outcome every jurisdiction should be required by law to conduct a bipartisan forensic audit to confirm the results, expose fraud and prosecute fraudsters.

Voter identification is key to this effort. The Secretary of State’s primary job is supervising state and local elections. Maintaining accurate and up-to-date voter rolls is crucial to this effort. The secretaries of State should provide weekly updates to the public on the accuracy, reliability and integrity of their voter rolls.

There should be no doubt that only lawful citizens are voting, signature verification reliably performed, and chain-of-custody issues resolved. Programing glitches, tabulation errors or other inequities should no longer plague our elections. We should know how many fraudulent votes were cast, counted or attempted and what is being done to identify and prosecute these crimes. It should be a crime for a noncitizen to even register to vote. If we are to have faith in the electoral process, our elections must be secure and transparent. Election integrity is too important to leave to chance or take for granted. One illicit vote is one too many.
