Postseason honors roll in for soccer, volleyball teams

After posting the best regular season in school history, the Greenwave girls soccer team landed 10 players on the 3A East team, including a pair on the all-region and all-state teams as voted by the 3A North coaches.

Fallon won the 3A East with a 17-1 record before falling to North Tahoe in the regional quarterfinals earlier this month.

After breaking the school’s single-scoring record, Fallon sophomore Karlie Simper, a forward, earned first-team honors in the 3A East, region and state, while sophomore defender Kaylee Craig picked up first-team honors in the league and region and second-team honors for the state.

Simper shattered the school’s scoring record with 49 goals this fall to go with 241 steals and 13 assists, which was third best on the team. Craig scored three goals and had nine assists but her specialty was defense as she was third on the team with 299 steals.

Senior Peyton Oceguera (midfield), sophomore Kortnie Simper (midfield) and senior Yasmien Leceste (defense) were named to the 3A East’s second team. Oceguera was second on the team in steals with 313 and led the team with 33 corner kicks. Simper scored 49 goals and had a team-high 331 steals. Leceste finished with 222 steals.

Seniors McKenzee Peterson (forward, goalkeeper), Kaitlin Goings (midfield) and Ambreea Snodgrass (goalkeeper), and juniors Kylee Simper (midfield, forward) and Jazelynn Kratz (midfield) were named honorable mention. Peterson was second on the team with 19 goals to go with 113 steals and four assists. Goings scored six goals and had four assists, while Snodgrass, who became the goalie a couple weeks into the season, led the team with 57 saves out of 64 attempts. Simper finished the year with four goals and nine assists, and Kratz had eight goals and six assists.


BOYS SOCCER

Seniors Edwin Ugalde and Mason Storm led the Greenwave boys soccer team in postseason recognition, which was voted by the 3A North coaches.

Ugalde (midfield) and Storm (defense) were named to the 3A East and 3A North First Team while seniors Anthony Gonzalez (midfield), Uriel Romero Montes (forward) and Josh Gusewelle (defense) were honorable mention.

Ugalde was also named to the all-state’s first team while Storm was selected to the second team.

Fallon finished the season in fourth with a 10-6 record in the 3A East before falling to South Tahoe in the regional quarterfinals.


VOLLEYBALL

The Greenwave volleyball team landed three players on the all-3A East team as voted on by the coaches.

Senior setter Vernita Fillmore and sophomore middle blocker Raegan Johnson were selected to the league’s first team while junior defensive specialist Lea Williams was named to the second team. Johnson was also named to the region’s first team and state’s second team, and Fillmore was named to the region’s second team.

Johnson led the team in kills with 288 and an attack percentage of .393 to go with a team-high 46 blocks. Fillmore posted a team-high 576 assists and was second in digs with 258. Williams led the team in aces with 85 and digs with 320.

Senior opposite hitter Halle Johnson and sophomore Layla Walker were named honorable mention for the 3A North. Johnson was fifth on the team in kills with 97, while Walker posted 46 aces (second) and 208 digs (third).
