Alf Doten, editor of the Gold Hill News, was in town looking as happy and pleasant as a clam upon his native shores. We gave him a kindly greeting and did our level best to keep him out of the hands of the police.

Baritone: Walter Shannon, a noted young baritone of New York, is visiting Carson, and his voice will be heard at the services at St. Peter’s Thanksgiving day.

Methodist Youth Fellowship: The MYF sent five representatives to Richmond for the annual president’s party to honor the MYF presidents of the California-Nevada conference. Attending were Marlene and Shirley Freeman, Bonnie Boice, Gail Howard, James Sylvester, and Mr. and Mrs. Roland van der Smissen.

The Sage Brush singer: (New York) — Miss Emma Nevada, who arrived on the Armenia, will appear Sunday, depending on the state of her health as she has not been well. Her repertoire embraces “Lucia,” “Mignon,” “Lakme,” “Mirella,” and the oratorio of the “Rose of Sharon.” Miss Nevada’s voice is more sweet than powerful but has the quality of carrying so that the lowest note could be heard at the furthest part of the hall.

Prisoners: The number at the state prison is once more at 100 plus and will pass that number. During the past two years there have been more inmates of that institution that at any time for the previous twelve years.

Smart shopper: One woman made sure her handbags would match her shoes. Mrs. Joyce Stuard said the woman came in to buy a red handbag and a green one. On her feet she wore one red shoe and the other a green shoe.
