Lahontan Valley Choir performances

The Lahontan Valley Choir will present “Winter Wonderland” in three performances this holiday season.

Performances will take place at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at the Fallon Theatre, 71 S. Maine St., and Wednesday, Dec. 11 at Epworth United Methodist Church, 280 E. Stillwater Ave., in Fallon. The final performance will take place at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 23 at the Pennington Life Center, 952 S. Maine St.

Purchase 25 raffle tickets for $20 to win a quilt. Must be present to win.


Pet photos with Santa

CAPS pet photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus will be available from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 3 and Wednesday, Dec. 4 at the Fallon Theater, 71 S. Maine St. The cost is $20. Pre-registration is required register at: http://m.signupgenius.com


Greenwave Drama

Churchill County High School announces its production of the musical, The Wizard of Oz, set to be performed in the newly renovated CCHS Auditorium.

Performances will be held on Dec. 6, 7, 13, and 14 at 7 p.m., with special matinees on Dec. 7 at 1 p.m. and Thursday, Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m.

This enchanting production features a diverse cast from various local schools, including students from CCHS, Churchill County Middle School, Oasis Academy, Agape Church School, and homeschool programs, spanning grades 6 to 12.


Rotary Christmas drive for seniors

Items for Rotary's annual Homebound Senior Drive may be dropped off at Karla's business at Kent's Supply Center, 260 N. Maine St. and/or contact 775-423-2126 for questions. The items are donated to our local seniors in need.

Rotary will be hosting an evening to organize the collected donations on Tuesday, Dec. 10 at the Life Center.


Arts exhibits

The Harry Wilson exhibit on photographs from the 1960s opened Nov. 11. Most of Wilson’s photographs were in a one-person exhibition at the de Young Museum in San Francisco in 1969.

This exhibit was most recently shown at the Monterey Museum of Art during 2019.

The 1960s saw a nationwide explosion of interest in fine art photography, and in San Francisco. The reception for the artist was Nov. 23 in the Kirk Robertson Gallery, Oats Park Arts Center. The artist’s website is at HarryWilsonPhoto.com.

Sapira Cheuk’s exhibit in the E.L. Wiegand Gallery is open. She is an ink painter and installation artist. Born in Hong Kong and based in Las Vegas, her work often uses a blend of Sumi and India ink, symbolizing the mixture of her identities.

Cheuk works for the Nevada Arts Council, serves as the Art Editor for the museum of Americana and teaches at the College of Southern Nevada. The exhibition presentation is Jan. 18 from 5-7:30 p.m.


Military mail deadlines

The U.S. Postal Service is preparing for the holiday season as many families spend holidays apart due to military service.

To ensure overseas packages are delivered before Dec. 25, it has provided the following deadlines: Dec. 15 for APO/FPO/DPO addresses using USPS Priority Mail Express (excluding zip 093).

The Postal Service offers a free military care kit to ship items.


Fallon Elks Lodge

The Fallon Elks Lodge 2239 has several events planned in addition to its veterans’ lunch.

• The annual Elks Hoop Shoot is Dec. 7 at 3 p.m. at the Churchill County Middle School gymnasium.

The Elks Hoop Shoot is a free throw contest open to children from 8 to 13 years old. In 2023, the local Elks Lodge had participants advancing to the both the regional and state championship contests.

VFW Christmas dinner

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1002 in Fallon invites residents to a free Christmas dinner on Dec. 21 from 2-6 p.m. at the VFW banquet hall.

The VFW is located at 405 S. Maine St.


Churchill County Library

The library will be closed on Wednesday, Dec. 25 to observe the Christmas holiday.

Special events:

• A monthly adult crafting project is now on the library calendar. Come out on Dec. 12 at 4 p.m. to make dyed paper snowflakes. Adult BYOB(ook) Club takes place Dec. 19 at 4 p.m. Bring a book you are reading or recently read.

• Sen. Jacky Rosen’s office representative will be at the library Dec. 12 at 1 p.m. for “office hours.”

• Reading with Rover also takes place on Dec. 12 at 3:30 p.m. Come practice your reading skills on the best listeners and keep the book you choose to read. Geared to ages 6-11, but all are welcome.

• The library is hosting a gift wrap drop-in session at the Library Annex on Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Bring your gifts to wrap and the library will supply the paper and hot chocolate.

• Elementary Book Club meets Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. in the Library Annex for those in grades 3 through 5. Reserve your spot at: bit.ly/CCLElementaryBookClub

• Virtual Reality returns in force on Tuesdays at 3:30 p.m. and Fridays at 1:30 p.m. during STEAM. Patrons 10 and up may participate by reserving a spot. Minors must have a new signed permission form.


Pennington Life Center

Plenty of good eats at the Pennington Life Center: All are welcome to partake. Lunch served 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. weekdays. Cost is $6 for those under age 60 and a suggested donation of $3 for those 60 and older.
