The Northern Zone Nevada Music Educators Association (NZNMEA) held its annual Honor Choir, Honor Band and Honor Orchestra auditions and more than 100 music students from the Carson City School District chimed in and were selected. In total, 50 band, 50 choir and 17 orchestra students resonated their talents with judges and ultimately made the cut.

As part of the vetting process, students went through a virtual audition and were chosen with other students from schools in the Northern Nevada area. Of note, 13 Carson City students were honored as section or assistant section leaders with the highest or second-highest score in their section (indicated on the list).

More than 400 music students auditioned for the four honor groups made up of students from neighboring regions and school districts including Douglas, Dayton, Churchill, Yerington and Elko. The breakdown includes 65 auditions for Honors High School Band for which only 46 made the ensemble, 130 auditions for Honors High School Choir for which only 100 made the ensemble, 70 auditions for Honors Middle School Band for which only 45 made the ensemble and 135 auditions for Honors Middle School Choir for which only 73 made the ensemble.

“We are proud of all these students and their accomplishments,” said Carson Middle School Choir and Musical Theater Director Briana Valley, who is also the NZNMEA secretary. “We look forward to each of them representing the Carson City School District well in their performances.”

Performances for the Honor Ensembles will all take place at the Carson City Community Center:
