For more than 20 years, Churchill County has hosted the Jim Regan Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for academic scholarships for dependents of county staff.
Regan was a county commissioner who was heavily involved in the community and died in office in April 2000.
The 2024 tournament saw 48 golfers come out on Sept. 21 for a day of golfing, raffles, food and fun at the Fallon Golf Course. After two rounds through the nine-hole course, the City of Fallon’s Team 2 of Andy Dooley, Tristan Rodarte, Colin Shishido and Hayden Strasdin took first followed by the Fallon Golf Course team of Jamie Davis, Jim Privett, Andrew Palmer and Pakela Malama-Gomes. Third place went to the Churchill County team of Motulalo Otuafi, Trevor deBraga, Brooke Hill and Riley Horn.
DeBraga also won the longest drive contest while Davis won closest to the pin.
The Jim Regan Memorial Tournament was conceived by former county Comptroller Alan Kalt and is organized by Pam Moore in the Clerk-Treasurer’s Office.
The tournament was sponsored by Churchill County and the City of Fallon as platinum sponsors; along with The Depot Casino, Mackedon deBraga and Rowe, Tedford Tire & Auto Service, Banner Churchill Community Hospital, Western Nevada Supply, Councilwoman Karla Kent/Kent’s Supply Company, Jeff’s Digitex Printing, Evie Regan, Scott and Patti Hiatt and KVLV.

This year scholarships were awarded to Emily Bird, Hailey Guerrero, Kasey Lattin, Levi Johnson, Weina Lu, Bryan Mendoza, Demi Tekelidis and Maci Cooper.
