The Carson boys cross country team took first in the 20-team field over the weekend at the Truckee cross country invitational.

The Senators were led by three top 10 finishes from Sawyer Macy (second, 16:04), Sean Thornton (fourth, 16:47) and Alex Miner (ninth, 17:15).

Quinn Kuchnicki was 16th in 17:35 while sophomore Seth Chalmers finished 26th in 18:07.

Junior Nate Freed was 37th in 18:26 while Ivan Romeo and Tegun Borrowman were 41st and 53rd, respectively.

On the girls side, Carson bested the field with 33 team points. Douglas was second with 80 points.

Vea Miner, Brianna Rodriguez-Nunez and Madison Hager finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively for the Senators.

Jinnie Ponczoch was also in the top 10 with an eighth place finish in 20:31.

Sophomore Anna Shane crossed the line in 16th in 21:12 while senior Eleanor Romeo was 19th in 21:26.

Lilian Barker took 31st in 22:52.


SENATOR VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN FIVE TO COUGARS

Spanish Springs volleyball came back from a 2-0 deficit Thursday to beat Carson – 16-25, 17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-13.

“I think it was less of us and more they came back ready to play,” said Carson High head coach Brittany Witter. “We were struggling with the block on their middle. We just have to adjust to get our block a little quicker and double blocking on that.”

UP NEXT: Carson (13-4, 5-4 in Class 5A North league play) took on Bishop Manogue (14-8, 8-2) on Monday and Reno (13-7, 9-2) on Tuesday.


CARSON GIRLS SOCCER DOWNS DOUGLAS

Carson High girls soccer shut out Douglas over the weekend, 4-0.

Nastasia Sulprizio, Alondra Carillo, Dianna Torres and Sophia Vega each scored.

Carson captain Addy Morgan had a pair of assists while Carillo added an assist as well.

UP NEXT: Carson (6-5-3, 2-4-1) played at home Tuesday against Galena (9-3-2, 4-1-2) before traveling to Damonte Ranch (5-1-4, 4-1-2) this weekend.
