Douglas High School football took care of business Friday night, going on the road and thumping McQueen, 49-21.

The Tigers jumped out to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter, but McQueen was able to tie the contest up at 14-all going into half.

“We just drove down the field, typical downhill run game,” said Douglas High head coach Kyle Mays. “They battled back and tied it up. The possessions in between we kind of stalled out.”

Nathan Priou caught the Tigers’ first touchdown pass of the game while Brenton Weston had a pair of scores, according to Mays.

However, Douglas didn’t have any slip ups in the second half, powering their way out to a 35-14 lead by the end of the third quarter.

“We kind of took control of the game. Started getting stops and three and outs,” said Mays. “We were able to keep it on the ground and kind of run it out the rest of the way.”

The Tigers tacked on two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter.

Zack Jackson, Jackson Mckinney and Ryan Slagle all had a trip to the end zone as well for the Tigers, per Mays.

Mays had plenty of praise for his offensive line postgame.

“Our o-line did a magnificent job tonight protecting Jackson Ovard,” said Mays. “They did a great job securing up the middle; a great job.”

Camran Peake, Curtis Haliwell, Michael Cahill, Peio Ithuruburu, Justin Parra-McGee and center Luiz Vega were all highlighted by their head coach for their efforts.

UP NEXT: Douglas (6-2, 2-1 in Class 5A North Div. II league play) will get a week off with a bye week this coming Friday. In two week, the Tigers will be back at home,  playing host to Reed (5-3, 2-1) on Friday, October 18.
