The Wave girls soccer team stayed unbeaten in the 3A East after sweeping the season series against last year’s league champion.

Fallon, which defeated Pershing County, 10-0, on the road Tuesday before shutting out Spring Creek, 4-0, on Friday in Fallon, took down Elko, 4-1, on Saturday at the Edward Arciniega Athletic Complex in the second half of league play.

Fallon improved to 12-0 in the 3A East and controls first place with 36 points over Lowry’s 28 with five games left in the regular season. Fallon travels to Lowry in two weeks.

In Fallon’s pivotal win over Elko, Karlie Simper led the team with a pair of goals, coming at 27 and 65 feet. Kylee Simper scored from 24 feet out while Elizabeth Bergman’s 18-foot goal put Fallon on the board first.

Karlie Simper scored all the team’s goals in the shutout against Spring Creek, scoring from 4, 8, 23 and 64 feet.

In the 10-0 win over Pershing County, McKenzee Peterson led the team with four goals, and Simper scored three times, Yasmien Leceste had two goals, and Kortnie Simper added one from 51 feet. Peterson scored her goals from 1, 33, 41 and 44 feet, while Karlie Simpers’ goals came from 12, 38 and 48 feet. Leceste recorded goals 36 and 49 feet.

On the boys side, Fallon split with Spring Creek and Elko, defeating the Spartans, 1-0, before falling to the Indians, 6-0, in Elko County.

Fallon has a 7-3 record and is tied with four teams with three losses. Fallon, though, is tied with Spring Creek for second with 21 points, but the Greenwave hold the tiebreaker after sweeping the Spartans with less than three weeks left in the season.


VOLLEYBALL

The volleyball team fell to cross-valley rival Fernley in five sets before sweeping Dayton last week on the road.

Fallon took care of the Dust Devils, 25-14, 25-18 and 25-20, on Friday in Dayton.

Raegan Johnson led the team with 15 kills followed by Kendra Dodge with six and Alexis Haggard with five. Dylan Faught led in aces with four followed by Lea Williams with three and Vernita Fillmore with two. Johnson had two blocks, and Dodge and Haggard each had one.

Williams led the team in digs with 14 and Layla Walker had 10. Raygen Bartel finished with nine digs, and Fillmore and Faught each had eight. Fillmore dished 24 of the team’s 26 aces.

Fallon had a 2-1 lead over Fernley last Wednesday in Lyon County but the Vaqueros came back to win 21-25, 25-22, 19-25, 25-23 and 17-15.

Johnson led the team in kills with 18 followed by Dodge with six and Halle Johnson with five. Bartel had a match-high five aces and Williams added two. Raegan Johnson led the team in blocks with eight total and Halle Johnson had three.

Five players recorded double-digits in digs with Fillmore leading the team with 21 followed by Williams with 15. Bartel recorded 14 digs followed by Walker with 13 and Faught with 12. Dodge had nine. Fillmore also led the team in assists with 31.

Fallon (2-3, 3A East) hosted Douglas from the 5A this week and travels to Elko County to begin the second half of the league season against Spring Creek and Elko.


TENNIS

The Greenwave tennis teams competed in last week’s Class 3A Northern League tennis playoffs, a single-elimination team tournament.

The girls (4-4) scored an upset as the fifth seed, knocking off No. 4 Wooster (5-3), 11-7, last Monday in Reno. Fallon, though, fell to No. 1 North Valleys, 15-3, in the semifinals. Truckee won the team tournament over North Valleys, 12-6.

The Fallon boys tennis team (3-5), which entered as the sixth seed, lost to No. 3 Hug (6-2), 13-5 last Tuesday in Reno. South Tahoe won the team regional title with a 12-6 victory over Truckee.

The singles and doubles tournament is next weekend at the Tahoe Donner Tennis Center in Truckee.


GIRLS GOLF

The girls golf team wrapped up the regular season this week and will compete in next week’s state tournament at the Dayton Valley Golf Club in Dayton.

Going into the final week, Fallon was in position to qualify for state as a team for the first time in school history. The top-three teams and top-six individuals from non-qualifying teams from the regular season advance to the state tournament.

State information, including results, will be available online.


CROSS COUNTRY

The Greenwave cross country team competed in Friday’s Reed Invitational at Shadow Mountain Park in Sparks.

In the varsity division, Jackson Barbee led Fallon with a time of 20 minutes, 26 seconds, followed by Takoda Pacheco, 21:22; Lars Rasmussen, 21:30; Alexander Sorensen, 23:35; Michael Liston, 23:54; Isaac Frederick, 23:57; and Tayven Martinez, 24:15.

In the JV division, Levi Bradford led the boys with a time of 24:49 followed by Vernon Harper, 26:06, and William McNeill, 26:21. For the girls, Casandra Hooper led the team with a time of 25:34 followed by Rebekah Knight, 28:31; McKayla Taylor, 30:22; Melody Garcia-Bishop, 31:07; and Zoe Rasmussen, 36:34.
