Douglas High School football coach Kyle Mays was named the Las Vegas Raiders Tom Flores coach of the week, following the Tigers’ 49-21 win over McQueen last Friday.

Mays went on Raider Nation Radio 920AM Tuesday where he was interviewed after receiving the honor.

“For me to get the award, all the credit goes to the kids. They work so hard and put in so much time and energy to get us where we are,” said Mays in the interview. “I feel very fortunate to have a staff that is there 100 percent for the kids to make them better football players and better human beings.”

A 35-0 unanswered run for the Tigers in the victory was one of the biggest takeaways from Friday’s game.

“The kids just kind of settled in. We had a couple things we talked to them about,” said Mays. “They came out pretty focused in the second half.”

The show referenced Mays’ credit to his offensive line and the varsity head coach doubled down on the Tigers’ success on the line.

“They really started communicating. They got their eyes up,” said Mays. “They drove their feet, got their hands on them and did a really good job.”

The Las Vegas Raiders and the NFL Foundation will donate $1,000 to support the Tiger football program.
