Carson City School Board District 5 candidate Ashliee Saucedo has announced in a statement to the Nevada Appeal that she no longer wants to be elected to the board.

“I am resigning from running for Trustee for Carson City School (Board),” Saucedo said in her statement. “I am fully invested in my business at this time.

“I apologize for taking space on the ballot and not fulfilling the visions I had. Mr. Walker is just a really great candidate and has been doing this for a while. Please vote for Mike Walker for Trustee District 5.”

Saucedo is on the general election ballot and is eligible to be elected. She is running against incumbent Walker, who has served on the board since 2016.

Saucedo is owner of High Desert Home Care and filed for the position in March at the encouragement of her business partner, she said.

“My son is in Fremont, and I thought it’d be great to participate and navigate the schools and for the future and participate in that sense, but there’s probably a better way to be obligated than as a trustee,” she said.

Saucedo participated in the Oct. 9 election forum presented by the League of Women Voters of Northern Nevada, Sierra Nevada Forums and AAUW Capital (NV) Branch, one of four co-sponsored by the Nevada Appeal, along with three other school board candidates including opponent Walker. The forum covered the board’s major issues impacting Carson City schools.

After participating, Saucedo said she no longer wants to be elected to the board. According to the Secretary of State’s Office, the last day to withdraw candidacy was March 26.
