The Carson City Sheriff’s Office’s K-9 Joker will be competing at the third annual K-9 Unit Challenge & Public K-9 Obstacle Course, according to a news release.

Joker will be representing the Yerington Police Department, one of more than a dozen agencies attending this year’s event at Fuji Park.

This free, public K-9 event is Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Fuji Park in Carson City. Dozens of K-9s from multiple agencies will compete in three primary events: patrol apprehension, odor detection and agility. Apprehension and agility events will be on full display at Fuji’s main arena.

In addition to the main event, the public is invited to participate in a separate agility course event with their own dog. Spaces for the public competition are limited. The public event portion will take place in the Fuji arena at noon, is $25 to register, and requires a signed liability waiver.

There will be chances to meet the dogs, vendors, get K-9 swag and food. There will also be a SWAT demonstration at 11 a.m., JJ Christy with K-BULL 98.1 will make a special appearance at 1 p.m., and a mounted unit demonstration at 3 p.m.
